How to Remove Yourself From Data Brokers in Australia

The process is not complicated. It is just time-consuming. Here is how to do it properly.

Before you start

Data broker removal is not a one-time task. Most brokers repopulate profiles within 3-6 months from new data sources. The first sweep takes the longest — subsequent sweeps are faster once you know the process. Budget 4-8 hours for an initial thorough sweep of the most common platforms.

You will need: a dedicated email address for opt-out requests (so confirmation emails do not clutter your main inbox), your full name and any previous names, your current and any previous addresses, and your phone number.

Step-by-step removal for the most common platforms

  5. 5.Confirm via the email sent to you

  1. 1.Go to acxiom.com/optout
  2. 2.Submit a request under 'Opt-Out of Sale'
  3. 3.For Australian residents, also cite APP 11.2 in your request
  4. 4.Allow 30 days for processing

ZoomInfo

  1. 1.Go to zoominfo.com/privacy-center
  2. 2.Click 'Do not sell my data'
  3. 3.Submit your name and email
  4. 4.Confirm the removal email sent to you

Australian-specific platforms to prioritise

Beyond the global platforms, these Australian-specific sources need to be addressed:

  • Electoral roll — you can apply to have your details withheld from the public roll via the AEC
  • ASIC — if you are a director, your residential address may be suppressed via a suppression order application
  • CoreLogic / RP Data — property purchase records can be suppressed for safety reasons
  • White Pages Australia — direct opt-out available via their website
  • IVE Group / Salmat marketing lists — submit a formal APP 11.2 request via their privacy officers

When brokers do not respond

If a broker does not action your request within 30 days, escalate with a formal APP 11.2 Data Destruction Demand. If that is also ignored, lodge a complaint directly with the OAIC at oaic.gov.au. Under the reformed Privacy Act, unresponsive brokers face significantly higher penalties — so escalation is now more effective than it was previously.

The honest time estimate
